On 19 July 2024, we were all hit with a worldwide IT Outage.

4.6% of all flights around the world were cancelled, and banking apps globally were offline. On-site and remote workers alike faced an outage on their Windows computers, and bus and train systems were hit throughout Europe.

The perpetrator? The cybersecurity software installed on our PC’s called Crowdstrike.

A system update caused a massive crash – resulting in over 10-Billion Dollars’ worth of damage.

OUR MEDICAL EXPENSES LIMIT INCREASED - AT NO ADDITIONAL PREMIUM

Good news! Our limit for Medical Expenses incurred as a result of an on-water accident - has increased to R150 000 - at no additional premium to you, the policy holder!

Should any person on board your vessel be injured, we will pay medical expenses up to a maximum of R50 000 per person or R150 000 in all - whichever is the lesser.

PERSONAL ACCIDENT

Our Personal Accident cover offers R500 000 for death, total disablement and injury. This cover is for you, the insured, and your immediate family members onboard during the incident.

COMPANY NAME CHANGES

You may have noticed a change to your policy documentation regarding our insurer. Until July 31, 2024 your insurance was underwritten by Mutual & Federal Risk Financing, a licensed non-life insurer.  Since then, their name has changed to Old Mutual Alternative Risk Transfer Insure Limited, also known as OMART Insure. This is simply a name change and all their other company details remain the same.

NOT A WHALE OF A TIME!

This was hectic!
Justin Paynter, Dave Hewison and his son Declan were travelling to the deep (around 38 - 40km an hour) when suddenly a Humpback whale appeared 5m in front of them.

Skipper Dave hit reverse, but it was too late. The tail came out and landed right on the boat with a very loud bang and they were engulfed by water! In just three seconds - the whale disappeared, unharmed. The shocked anglers still threw a line or two - not realising how bad the damage was.

Congrats to Rachel Ledsham our CMI Brand Ambassador and DBSC angler - who was capped with her Natal Deepsea Angling half colours!

MOTORBIKES - SEA-TO-SKY

SA's BIKING STARS excelled at Turkey's Sea-to-Sky Hard Enduro World champs. Six of our riders finished in the top 20 (365 competitors) of this three-day comp - involving gruelling beach, forest and mountain rides.

CMI's Caryne and David were there to cheer them on - along with Team Trademore Sherco Racing, whose policies are insured through CMI Brokers!

YAMAHA EXPERIENCE

CMI's Lelani and hubby Peter manned our stand and ran a Lucky Draw at the Yamaha Experience at Rynfield Dam (East Rand Speed Boat Club)! Ryan Sydow was the delighted winner of a 15-litre cooler box.

4 X 4 ADVENTURE

The first 4 x 4 & Outdoor Show held at Swartkopz Raceway in Centurion was very well attended and CMI was there! Our Lucky Draw attracted loads of attention, and the 15-litre cooler boxes were won by Hilda Kruger and Johan Venter.

F1 POWERBOAT RACING

CMI co-sponsored South African Formula 1 powerboat racing champion Keagan Frankiewicz, in the opening round of the new racing season, held at Abrahamsrust on the Vaal River!

QUEENS OF THE OCEAN

What a ball Team CMI had at this ultra-festive Ladies-only fishing comp at St Lucia – both as sponsors and anglers! Lots of great catches came in - even though there was only one fishable day.

While Megan and Rachel fished, the land-bound CMI crew went Hippo watching and game viewing en-route to Cape Vidal. A rather scary elephant encounter – resulted in the new ‘Elephant’ shooter! Everyone enjoyed the entertainment, beach party, rugby on the big screen, good food, live music and loads of refreshments!

ALBERT FALLS BASS CLASSIC

David Ledsham represented CMI and fished in this year’s  Albert Falls Bass Classic competition!

Team CMI joined around 100 Bass anglers (50 boats) at Loskop Dam early in August, for the Anglers4Anglers Bass competition!
