1. TRAIL TALK

You are amazing.

HAPPY FRIDAY! I trust you've had a good week.

You celebrate your weekend trails on Facebook every Monday morning. It's simple: upload one photo that you or a running buddy took on your weekend missions, and say a bit about it. There are always some gems, and this week was no exception. Head on over there and add your own.

Above: Izak du Plessis just can't get enough of Harrismith's imposing Platberg. In this stunning naturescape, he's perfectly captured the calming spirit of Feetjiebos, which is on the 34km Harrismith Trail Race course. (Look out for our Thursday Throwback on Facebook from this historic and challenging event next week.)

Below: Maricia Le Roux and friends went in search of new playgrounds at Dassieshoek, Robertson. They found them!

Check out the other fantastic shares this week. All very inspiring! You are amazing.

Lucky 13 for the Grail of Trail.

Uploaded to Facebook yesterday were a few of my highlights from the 13th Otter African Trail Run (presented by Emperor Asset Management). More to follow. It was another remarkable running of the world-famous Grail of Trail, and I hope you enjoy reliving some of the memories.

Your adventures continue

Also on Facebook is an opportunity for you to share race images. This is for those totally epic show wow type photos not taken by you, but of you, by a race photographer. So visit that post and let's see how awesome you really are when you're not taking photos.

Have a great Friday and weekend. Happy trails forever.

4. ISSUE 41

What's in the new issue?

Enjoy 22 venues in the Holiday Trails section to plan your December break and explore new territory across the country.

A health checklist is a darned good idea to consult if you're new to trail running. Gauteng's Elsabé Hunter has the details.

Has your running progressed or plateaued? Evaluate how your fitness is doing by doing the test used by Cape Town coach Sean Tait.

"Am I overtraining?" A good question to ask, and check you don't have any of the warning signs with Dr Gabe Mirkin's excellent article.

If you've had COVID, and want to train again, be armed with valuable advice from coach Neville Beeton, who has had nearly 30 of his runners recover from it.

For retail motivation, there's top quality gear from The North Face, First Ascent, Brooks, Rock Rabbit, Salomon, and Trailhounds.

Wanna race? Then head on over to our calendar section, which has events to satisfy every trail ability until January 2022.

More: event wraps, a throwback to a runner's meltdown at Annapurna 2019, tips for young investors to grow their money, and your chance to win one of two Saucony Peregrine 11 trail shoes.

The cover photo of Bruce Arnett is by talented Georgian Zane Schmahl.

You can use TRAIL 41 to help you stay focused and motivated, so check it out.
