All dry food consist mostly of large amounts of carbohydrates, with only limited vitamins and minerals.
Canines, as protein-eating carnivores, are not able to absorb and thrive on carbohydrates (including rice). They are also are unable to synthesize their own vitamins & minerals. Supplementation is, therefore, vital to their prime health.
Dogs also have a fast metabolism, so very little storage of vitamins and minerals is possible. Each day they start anew using what is available on that day.
So logically - YES - they do require daily supplementation for prime health.
Despite claims made by the dry pet food manufactures, dogs should also be provided with the essential vitamins and minerals in bioavailable amounts.
Amino Acids are also vital to allow all their daily nutrition to be efficiently absorbed and to replenish the bodily systems that fight common problems such as:
- Maintaining a balanced immune system
- Bacterial infections
- Fungal infections, lice, ticks & fleas
- Low energy levels
- Hotspots and temperature regulation
- Environment allergy’s & dry dull coats
- Excessive shedding
