Uneven bounce back in new vehicle sales

As cost of Covid-lockdowns becomes evident

In this edition of Auto Insights, Lightstone provides a review of the year to date.

We look at new vehicle sales which suggest a recovery in the automotive industry following a dismal year.

A deep-dive into the market reveals that the Sports & Exotics segments have proven the most resilient and, along with the Crossover and the Above One-ton Double-cab segments, have improved their market share by 20% year-on-year over the past six months.

An analysis of the Light Vehicle segment shows a view of the encouraging growth in new vehicle sales seen in this segment in a number of provinces.

Dealer market activity, informed by LIVE vehicle scans, confirm a pick up in sales and reveal that Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger lead in the popularity stakes.

Finally, Signio data indicates that vehicle finance applications are back to pre-Covid levels, suggesting that customer appetite to buy a vehicle is growing and that confidence is rising.
